U.S. submariner spied for unknown country · 2006-12-06 18:30

SubmarineU.S. submariner Ariel Weinmann pleaded guilty to espionage in favor of a foreign state he refused to identify. According to local media he is lirely to spy for Russia.

Weinmann, 22, joined the U.S. Navy in 2003 and served at Albuquerque submarine. Deserting the Navy, he stole a government computer with more than 30 secret files and left for Austria, reports Kommersant.

He met a representative of a foreign government in Vienna in 2005 and attempted to transmit information related to national defense.

Weinmann’s trial commenced on Monday in Norfolk.
