Fire at Russian hospital kills 6 · 2006-12-11 13:47
Mosnews reports, nine patients of a clinic for the mentally ill in Siberia have died in a fire that local workers tried to extinguish on their own for one-and-a-half hours, failing to instantly call the fire service.
Sixteen patients are wounded.
The accident happened in the Kemerovo region of Western Siberia, just over a day after a deadly fire at a drug treatment centre in Moscow, when 45 women were trapped behind locked gates and barred windows.
The deadly accidents show a neglect of fire safety rules, which made Russia one of the world’s leaders in the number of fire deaths.
