Not enough snow in the Alps · 2006-12-14 14:03

Ski resortA new study has warned, some Alpine ski resorts, especially lower-lying slopes, will suffer insufficient snow, caused by global warming.

The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) found that recent years had seen the warmest winters on record in the Alps and that climate projections predicted even higher temperatures in the future, reports BBC.

According to the OECD report, ski resorts in Germany are likely to become unviable in the future. Areas of the Austrian and Italian Alps are the next most vulnerable, followed by some slopes in France and Switzerland.

The number of ski resorts in Europe is likely to decline from 600 till 400 in the nearest decade.
