Ibragimov to fight WBO champion Shannon Briggs · 2006-12-27 15:56
According to Kommersant, Russian boxer Sultan Ibragimov has been officially named to challenge WBO heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs.
American Shannon Briggs, 35, known as “Shannon the Cannon”, first won the title on 4 November after he knocked down Sergey Lyakhovich in the 12th round. “To be honest, I think he’s the most talented guy in the heavyweight division”, former trainer Jeff Mayweather said about Briggs.
Eastsideboxing predicts an easy victory for Briggs, as the 270 pound (121,5 kg) Briggs expected to be too big and strong for the young and undersized Ibragimov. “I’m gonna knock him out. He’s too young and in experienced, he only has 20 fights. He just came off a draw with Ray Austin in a fight I felt Austin won… Sultan did not impress me!” – Briggs said about his future fight with Ibragimov.
