Hijacked Aerflot Airbus lands in Prague · 2006-12-28 17:41
A Russian passenger plane of Aeroflot Airlines has made an emergency landing in Prague after a hijack attempt, Russian news agency RIA Novosti informed.
The A-320 airliner with 168 people onboard was en route from Moscow to Geneva. It made an unscheduled landing at Prague’s Ruzyne international airport after a passenger demanded a change of route and threatened to damage the plane.
Aeroflot’s air security service said the suspected hijacker had been arrested. The plane will continue its flight after an additional examination and baggage checks.
According to the BBC, a drunk passenger started a fight with two other passengers. Meanwhile Lev Koshlyakov, Aeroflot’s deputy director general, denied media reports that the man was under the influence of alcohol.
“He is a Russian national. He said he had an explosive device and behaved strangely,” Mr Koshlyakov told Russia’s RTR television channel.
Czech Police President Vladislav Husak told journalists, that the alleged hijacker has been rendered harmless already on board, Ceskenoviny.cz, reported. His family was traveling with him.
