Kommersant reported the results of a year end survey completed by Harris international pollsters who asked the U.S. and EU citizend about world leaders.
2000 respondents from each country, including Great Britain, the U.S., France, Italy, Spain and Germany, were asked to identify the most important event of the year. They also expressed their opinions of world leaders.
The war in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah was listed the most important event of the year by the most Westerns. Concerning the best world leader, German Chancellor Angela Merkelt topped the list, finding favor among Italians (61%), Spaniards (60%), French (57%) and Germans (51%).
The world’s worst politician, according to the poll’s findings, was George W. Bush. Vladimir Putin was chosen the third least popular politician in the poll.
