2000-year-old warrior found by Altai archaeologists · 2007-01-11 18:30
Russian scientists have unearthed remains of a 2000-year-old ancient warrier in the Altai mountains, Mosnews reported.
An archaeologist Alexei Tishkin said: “This is definitely a very serious discovery. It's incredibly lucky that the burial was in permafrost so it was very well preserved."
According to Altai archaeologists, the warrior was blond and had tattoos on his body. He was wearing a coat with sable fur trimmings and was buried in a wooden frame with mythological drawings on it.
The man is believed to be the ruling elite of a local nomadic tribe known as the Pazyryk. Numerous other Pazyryk tombs have been found in the area.
