About 1200 students were evacuated from the dormitory building of the Moscow State University after a blast occurred at 4:53am Moscow time on Friday, ITAR-Tass reported. Nobody was hurt.
Head of the Moscow emergency centre Yevgeny Bobylev told the news agency that the “three square metres of a wall have collapsed as a result of the explosion and window glass was broken from the tenth to the 14th floor”.
According to Regnum, the blast occurred on the staircase between the 15th and 16th floors. As a result, a wall was damaged and smoke covered the area.
A spokesman of the Moscow police told Tass “it is too early to make conclusions what caused the blast.” Moscow police started criminal proceedings on the charges of hooliganism and illegal arms and explosives trafficking.
