Mamonov's speech cut from broadcasting · 2007-01-29 19:16
Actor Pyotr Mamonov was awarded the best man actor prize at Gold Eagle Award ceremony, but his speech was cut from official TV broadcasting, Kommersant reported.
Wearing a filthy jacket, worn jeans and dirty sport boots, Pyotr Mamonov thanked the God and the nation that "brought up and fed him."
"I don't understand why the people see "Ostrov" ("The Island") crying in the cinemas. But what is happening around us bothers no one," the actor said.
He continued his award speech with critisicm of Russia’s president: "And you are still playing, but it is that carefree life of yours will lead to all of us learning the Chinese. My grandson will surely be a maintenance worker at an oil derrick managed by some Chinese. And what's Putin? He is a sissy, a secret-service agent. What can he do"?
TV chiefs cut at least a fifth of his address triggering heated discussions in the Internet about the thorough censure of his speech.
