Silvio Berlusconi says sorry to his wife · 2007-02-01 11:35
Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi has said sorry to his wife for flirting with other women, the BBC informed.
She had demanded the public apology in a front-page letter to the Italian newspaper, La Repubblica. Veronica Berlusconi, his second wife, said his flirting damaged her dignity.
Veronica Berlusconi was reacting to comments that Berlusconi made last week during a VIP party after a TV awards show broadcast by one of the media baron’s Mediaset channels.
“If I weren’t married, I would marry you immediately,” the 70-year-old Berlusconi told one woman. “With you, I’d go anywhere,” he reportedly told another.
In the statement, issued via his Forza Italia party, Mr Berlusconi said: “Forgive me, I beg you. And take this public show of my private pride giving in to your fury as an act of love. One of many.”
“I guard your dignity, like a treasure within my heart, even when careless comments slip off my tongue,” said Mr Berlusconi, 70.
