Aero India-2007 in the southern city of Bangalore, which will last until February 11, is expected to be the largest aerospace show in the Asia-Pacific region in recent years.
"Russian pilots will perform new aerobatic stunts, and visitors can take part in a contest to name three of the maneuvers. A flight on board a MiG-29 [Fulcrum] and a trip to Russia will be the prize," a MiG aircraft-building corporation spokesperson said.
The air show will feature the MiG-35 jet fighter, which Russia is presenting in a bid for a $4 billion tender for 126 light fighters to be supplied to the Indian Air Force, a RIA Novosti correspondent said.
The MiG-35, an export version of the MiG-29M OVT (Fulcrum F), is a highly maneuverable air superiority fighter, which was shown for the first time in August 2005 during the MAKS Air Show outside Moscow. It will compete with U.S., Swedish and French jet fighters in the Indian tender.
The fighter is powered by RD-33 OVT thrust vectoring control engines. The engines provide superior maneuverability and enhance the fighter’s performance in close air-to-air engagements.
Russia will also demonstrate its Be-200 amphibious aircraft. The multipurpose turbofan can be used as a firefighter, a cargo plane, a flying ambulance, and a passenger airliner.
In its firefighting configuration, it can pick up 12 tons (26,460lb) of water by skimming over the water’s surface, making it an effective weapon in extinguishing forest fires, a role in which it is used by Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry.
The Sukhoi corporation will show its SuperJet-100 project, representing a family of medium-range passenger aircraft developed in cooperation with Russia’s Ilyushin planemaker and major American and European aviation corporations, including Boeing, Snecma, Thales, Messier Dowty, Liebherr Aerospace, and Honeywell.
Russia will also demonstrate jet and rocket engines, simulators, airborne armaments and radars, as well as navigation, flight control and communications systems at its compound, which covers over 1,300 square meters and houses pavilions for over 40 Russian enterprises.
