The former Spice Girl gave birth to her second daughter in California at 12.11am on April 3.
Mel was taken to Santa Monica’s St. John’s Hospital at 5.30pm the day before. Her spokeswoman said: “The baby is completely healthy with a good head of hair.”
“No name has been decided on as yet, and she is purely known as Baby Brown.”
Mel insists actor Eddie Murphy, who she dated for several months last year, is the father. However, Eddie refuses to accept responsibility until a paternity test is carried out.
Eddie Murphy told a Dutch TV show in December: “I don’t know whose child that is, until it comes out and has a blood test.” If Eddie is the father, this will be his eighth child, <Monsters & Critics web site says.
Brown issued a statement saying she was “upset and distressed” by Murphy’s comments: “I was astonished what Eddie said. There is absolutely no question that Eddie is the father.”
“I have no idea why anybody would want to conduct themselves in this kind of manner about such a personal matter in such a public way.”
Brown and Murphy began appearing together in public last summer, after Murphy’s divorce from his ex-wife Nicole Mitchell was finalized in April.
In August, they vacationed together in Hawaii, accompanied by five of Murphy’s children and Phoenix, Mel’s seven-year-old daughter from her previous marriage to dancer Jimmy Gulzar.
