Film director Robert Clark, best known for the holiday classic A Christmas Story, was killed with his son Wednesday in a car wreck, the filmmaker’s assistant and police said.
Bob Clark was driving his son, Ariel, home when their car was struck by the SUV driven by Velazquez-Nava, said Los Angeles Police Detective Mike Fischer.
The investigation is still incomplete, but it appears the SUV entered the southbound lane and Clark swerved to try to avoid the collision, Playfuls reported.
Hector Manuel Velazquez-Nava is a native of Mexico and is said to be in the USA illegally.
He could face charges of vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He had a blood-alcohol level three times above the legal limit, Los Angeles police said.
Velazquez-Nava is being held at the Van Nuys Jail. Bail has been set at $100,000, but the man’s undocumented status makes him ineligible for release on bond, officials said.
