This year, Easter celebrations among Orthodox and Catholic believers fall on the same date, according to the Julian and Gregorian calendars, RIA Novosti reported.
Festive Easter services will be conducted in all Orthodox and Catholic churches on April 8.
In Moscow festivities will be held in 243 churches. Alexy II, the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia congratulated Christians on upcoming Easter, and called on every believer to strengthen their families.
“You must take special care of your families to make them strong and harmonious, capable of raising new generations in the spirit of truth and honor,” the Patriarch said in his Easter message.
The Resurrection of Christ occurred on the third day after the Savior’s death on the Cross. This evangelical event signifies the Lord’s triumph over sin and death and the start of a new world atoned by Jesus Christ.
