Forty-part TV series shows The Legend of Bruce Lee · 2007-04-11 11:54

Bruce Lee, www.facade.comA 40-part series is being made by Chinese state television about the life of late martial arts star Bruce Lee.

The Legend of Bruce Lee is being filmed in southern China and stars actor Chan Kwok-kwan, who said he was "nervous and also excited" about the role.

Lee, who was born in San Francisco, gained fame through more than 40 kung fu films such as Enter the Dragon.

He died in Hong Kong in 1973 at the age of 32, having suffered from a fatal swelling of the brain, BBC informs.

Recording of the series began last weekend in Shunde in the southern province of Guangdong, where a museum dedicated to Lee was opened five years ago.

His father and grandfather were also born in the town, but Lee only went there once in his life, aged five.

The production is being interpreted as a way for authorities to promote Chinese culture internationally in the run-up to next year's Olympics in Beijing.
