Russia doubts Yushchenko’s constitutionality · 2007-04-11 16:43
Russian presidential aide Sergey Prikhodko, speaking on the state Rossiya television channel, has expressed doubt about the constitutionality of several moves made by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko.
“We hope that the head of the Ukrainian state is responsible enough and has the opportunity for events to develop exclusively in a constitutional, lawful course,” Prikhodko said. “We have several questions, about how much several of his steps and actions correspond to that principle.”
Yushchenko has expressed concern over the politicization of the Constitutional Court. “There is such politicization around it that it may discredit its work,” he said.
Yushchenko dismissed several lower court decisions against his order to dissolve the Supreme Rada as the desire “to block the legal process.” The Artemovsky District Court in Lugansk prohibited preparations for elections today. The ban will be in force until a suit filed by Party of the Regions MP Vladimir Ivanov is heard. The Feodosia Municipal Court in the Crimea banned election preparations on April 5, Kommersant reports.
