With less than 500 days to go until Beijing hosts the 2008 Summer Olympics, China has started preparation for this global event viewed here as a major showcase for the country’s amazing growth in recent years.
The Beijing Organizing Committee for the 29th Olympic Games (BOCOG) has made available more than 7 million affordable tickets, including 26,000 tickets for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
According to Variety web site, the organizers have invited British helmer Daryl Goodrich, who made a promo film for London’s successful bid to host the 2012 Olympics, to make a five-minute film for the Beijing Games.
He will take part in the “Vision Beijing” series, which also will include Giuseppe Tornatore and Majid Majidi.
Shooting of the film will begin at the end of May. All of the five short films are slated to be screened in August at various venues, including on television, at the airport, on buses and advertising signs.
