Guilty party in mine tragedy is become known · 2007-04-18 13:51
Konstantin Pulikovsky, director of the Federal Ecological, Technical and Atomic Supervision Service (Rostekhnadzor) announced the results of his agency’s investigation of the causes of the accident at the Ulyanovskaya Mine, which took the lives of 110 people on March 19.
The agency found that 42 mine employees who had interfered with the operation of methane sensors in the mine were to blame for the occurrence. Eight of the guilty employees died in the accident. Yuzhkuzbassugol, the owner of the mine, concurs fully with the report.
Rostekhnadzor found that the readings of the methane sensors manufactured by the English company Davis Derby had been intentionally distorted. Kemerovo Region Governor Aman Tuleev, who accompanied Pulikovsky to the Yuzhkuzbassugol offices for the announcement, said that “The representative of the British company didn’t believe that the data could be changed. When a clear thinker from the Yuzhkuzbassugol Co. showed him how to do it, he fainted. That’s what kind of mind you have to have to break into the system and set up your own program.”
According to Kommersant, the governor noted that “the control system was set up in the administrative complex. Everyone was in on the conspiracy, the operators too.”
