Madonna has arrived in Malawi with her daughter Lourdes and Malawi-born adopted son David Banda toand oversee the building of a children’s healthcare centre and visit David’s father .
Madonna and Guy Ritchie adopted David Banda last October. They were accused of bypassing the country’s laws in seeking to adopt one-year-old David Banda from the orphanage, where he had been placed by his father.
Authorities in Malawi waived adoption laws in granting Madonna and Guy Ritchie an interim order and custody of David Banda for 18 months, at the end of which they said Madonna has said she will apply to make the adoption permanent.
The couple hopes to adopt the boy formally. Officials are expected to make their first visit to the couple’s London home in May.
During her visit Madonna said Yohane Banda is a part of the family. According to Playfuls, Madonna had a tearful encounter with David’s father.
The Sun magazine reported that Madonna had spoken of building a home in Malawi and spending up to a month a year in the southern African country.
The orphanage at Mchinji, visited by Madonna Tuesday, was set up in 1998 by the Reverend Thompson Chipeta, a retired Presbyterian minister who was an orphan himself.
