Russia to connect Siberia and Alaska · 2007-04-21 17:11
Russia plans to dig a tunnel under the Bearing Strait to connect Siberia with Alaska.
The Russian officials unveiled that the project has a 64 billion dollars budget and will improve the gas and oil transport between oil-rich Russia and the United States.
Maxim Bystrov, deputy head of Russia’s agency for special economic zones, said it would be “a business project, not a political one,” the Times of London reported Friday.
According to officials in Russia, the project will broaden the economic horizon of eastern Europe and will turn the east part of Russia into “a leading industrial region” and important transit point for all the world.
