Fabien Barthez leaves Nantes · 2007-05-01 14:14

Fabien BarthezFormer France goalkeeper Fabien Barthez insists he will not play for Nantes again after being attacked by a fan after his side’s defeat at the weekend, the BBC Sport informed.

The 2-0 home defeat by Rennes left Nantes bottom of Ligue 1 and the ex-Manchester United star, 35, was targeted driving out of the ground.

“I will not play for Nantes again,” Barthez told French radio France Info. “This has got nothing to do with football. I no longer feel safe there and it’s better for me to leave.”

His car was kicked by a group of fans as he left the Beaujoire stadium on Saturday.
