"Gilmore Girls" to come to an end May 15 · 2007-05-04 18:14

In a brief statement released yesterday, the CW and Warner Bros. TV announced that "Gilmore Girls" will come to an end May 15 after seven seasons.

"Announcing the final season of "Gilmore Girls" is a truly sad moment for everyone at the CW and Warner Bros. Television," said the release. "This series helped define a network and created a fantastic, storybook world featuring some of television's most memorable, lovable characters."

According to San Jose Mercury News, the studio and the network had been trying to negotiate a limited eighth season for the series, once one of TV's best comedy-dramas. But according to sources, negotiations with stars Lauren Graham (mother Lorelai Gilmore) and Alexis Bledel (daughter Rory Gilmore) broke down earlier this week. Both had publicly expressed reservations about returning for another year after a seventh season that was beset early on by writing problems.
