The Flint native LaKisha Jones on Wednesday night was booted from the "American Idol" on the basis of more than 45 million viewer votes following Tuesday night's Gibb-themed performances. With her departure, the number of finalists is down to three.
As tears streamed down Jones' face, host Ryan Seacrest told her she should be proud. She replied: "I am," before taking the stage to reprise her rendition of "Stayin’ Alive" to a boisterous crowd.
Jordin Sparks and Melinda Doolittle were the first to learn that they advanced, leaving Jones and Blake Lewis, the two contestants that judge Simon Cowell said Tuesday he thought were at risk of being cut.
Before the results were announced, Cowell was asked what he thought would happen.
"I think LaKisha is going to go home," Cowell said.
Cowell’s prediction was correct, MLive.com reports.
"Blake, you are safe," Seacrest said. "That means we lose LaKisha."
