Paris Hilton says she wants to stop acting dumb and be a better person when she gets out of jail.
The socialite, who was put back behind bars last Friday after being released only three days into her 23-day sentence, told Barbara Walters: "I feel as if I'm a different person. God has given me this new chance."
She said her spiritual advisor told her that her "spirit or soul did not like the way I was being seen. That is why I was sent to jail. God has released me."
"I'm not the same person that I was," she was quoted as saying by Walters on Monday's episode of The View. "I know now that I can make a difference and that I have the power to do that."
Walters said Hilton, who sounded tired, contacted her by telephone, Canada.com reports.
Hilton added: "I used to act dumb. It was an act and that act is no longer cute. It is not who I am nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who look up to me."
Walters said Hilton denied reports that she was heard "wailing, screaming and sobbing" during her first brief stint in jail.
