NBC and ABC are trying to quell a firestorm over purportedly buying rights to an exclusive interview with Paris Hilton after she's released from jail next week.
An ABC News executive said the Hilton family had offered the interview to Barbara Walters, but the network has turned it down.
Earlier in the week, ABC had thought it had secured an interview with the Hiltons. An agreement called for a payment of $100,000 for the use of exclusive video and other material to go with the story. But the family told executives they had been out-bid by an "astronomical" offer from NBC.
NBC News denied the claim and said it would only be interested in speaking to Hilton if no money were involved, quell News10.net informs.
