Nicole Richie may face four days jail time · 2007-07-11 17:59
“The Simple Life” star Nicole Richie is deciding whether to accept or reject a peal deal offered by prosecutors in her driving under the influence case.
Nicole Richie didn't appear in court Wednesday because of her misdemeanor charge. And her attorney is expected to tell the judge what Richie has decided, Xinhua informs.
Nicole Richie was scheduled to go on trial Wednesday. She was arrested Dec. 11 and pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence.
In addition, her case contains an allegation that she had a prior misdemeanor DUI conviction in June 2003, which may put her in the same company with friend Paris Hilton.
The California vehicle code says a person convicted of DUI twice within 10 years can be sentenced to 90 days to a year in jail and have driving privileges suspended.
If convicted, Nicole Richie faces a minimum sentence of four days in jail, Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said. She added that a jail term could range up to a year.
