Reality-TV star Nicole Richie was sentenced yesterday to 90 hours in jail and fined $2,048 after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of drugs.
Presiding Superior Court Commissioner Steven K. Lubell told Richie, 25, she was lucky nobody was killed when she drove the wrong way on a Burbank, Calif., freeway early on Dec. 11. When police found her Mercedes-Benz sports utility vehicle parked in a carpool lane, Richie said she had smoked marijuana and taken Vicodin before getting behind the wheel, Washington Post informs.

The co-star of "The Simple Life" was also given three years' probation and ordered to complete a second-offender drug and alcohol program by Feb. 20 as part of a plea agreement, the Associated Press reports. A prior conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol from 2003 had made Richie eligible for a sentence of 90 days to a year in jail.
