An Andy Warhol portrait of Elizabeth Taylor owned by the actor Hugh Grant made a disappointing showing at auction last night, selling for $23.6 million, below even its low-ball estimated value of $25 million.
The 1963 portrait by the pop artist, titled "Liz," was expected to be one of the big-ticket items at Christie's postwar and contemporary art sale in New York, News York Post informs.
The auction house had said the painting was worth between $25 million and $35 million.
The portrait, which depicts the movie star's violet eyes and ruby-red lips against a turquoise backdrop, was sold to an anonymous bidder.
