The Countess of Wessex and her child are expected to stay in hospital for the next few days. The boy who is eighth in the line to the throne is likely to take the title Viscount Severn.

Prince Edward said that his son was "like most babies, rather small, very cute and very cuddly".

Being asked about a potential name he said: "We didn’t know, we had no idea what we were going to get, we hadn’t asked."

Sophie and Edward also have a four-year-old daughter Lady Louise Windsor daughter, who was born in 2003.

Prince Edward married Sophie Rhys-Jones at St George’s Chapel in Windsor in June 1999, BBC informed.
