Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry has named her newborn daughter Nahla Ariela Aubry, her publicist has revealed.
The name is pronounced ["GNAW-lah ARE-ee-EL-uh"]
Halle spoke with Access Hollywood's Nancy O'Dell about choosing the name.
"We didn't have a name picked out until just before we left the hospital," Halle told Nancy. "For us it was hard to name the most important person in our life until we met her."
"Nahla is the Arabic word for "drink of water," Pamela Redmond Satran, co-author of The Baby Name Bible, told press. "Ariela is related to the Hebrew Ariel, which means "lion of god."
"Nahla is one of those names that is occasionally found among people of African or Arabic descent, but isn't commonly used in any particular culture," she adds, The Gossip Girls reports.
