Ilya Kovalchuk scored the winner for the Russian team as the score was tied 4-4 after the third period.
This trophy became the first World Cup title for Russia since 1993 while Canada failed to become the first host nation to seal the title since 1986.
Russia were 2-4 behind late in the third period, however two kick goals from Alexei Tereschenko and Ilya Kovalchuk brought the teams level.
