Paul McCartney received an honorary Doctor of Music degree from Yale University on Monday, E! Online informs.
The band played “Hey Jude” as the former Beatle accepted the degree at the university’s graduation ceremony. McCartney, 65, was hailed for awakening a generation with his fresh take on “rock, roll, rhythm and blues.”
“Here, there and everywhere, you have pushed the boundaries of the familiar to create new classics,” said Yale President Richard Levinhe. “We admire your musical genius and your generous support of worthy causes.”
