Jessica Simpson ??“ who designs clothing, shoes and handbags for Macy’s ??“ was supposed to fly from Nashville to New York Tuesday to celebrate the department store’s 150th anniversary.
But driving rain caused serious flight delays, forcing the singer to miss her scheduled Macy’s gig singing "Happy Birthday" with Elmo.
The department store party included guests like Eva Mendes, Tommy Hilfiger and Martha Stewart. But in fact it had nearly ended by the time Simpson finally arrived, PEOPLE informs.
"I’m so, so sorry!" the singer said as she rushed into Manhattan’s Gotham Hall.
But her injured NFL boyfriend Tony Romo "was just praying" she’d miss the event, because he "had planned a really romantic date" in case Simpson "didn’t make it out."
