Amy Winehouse's life is to be studied at the university · 2008-12-04 17:10
The highs and lows of Amy Winehouse are to be studied as part of a new university degree course.
The life of troubled singer, whose career has been blighted by drug addiction, will be used as a set text on the music course at the University of the West of Scotland.
Teaching materials on the diploma and degree-level course will be provided by her record company, Island.
"Amy Winehouse is a great example of the potential pitfalls in the music industry. She is recognised as a multi-award-winning great artist. But the by-product of that lifestyle can be stress and illness. We would look at how the industry is often not a supporter of longevity," Allan Dumbreck, music course leader from the University of the West of Scotland, said.
Amy Winehouse, 25, is rumoured to be divorcing husband Blake Fielder-Civil, 26, who was this week sent back to prison after failing a routine drugs test.
The singer, herself battling addiction, repeatedly dedicated her performances to "Blake, incarcerated", Telegraph.co.uk reports.
