Nikolai Valuev to return WBA title · 2009-11-10 18:50
Russian boxer Nikolai Valuev failed to win British challenger David Haye. So, Russia lost the last of her boxing titles that the country owned.
But Nikolai Valuev, 36, said he wasn't going to finish his career and wanted to defend his WBA heavyweight title again.
At the same time Russian Komsomolskaya Pravda says the ways to become WBA champion again.
The first way is a return match. David Haye said he is ready. But to begin with Haye has to fight with obligatory challenger John Ruiz. Then David Haye will probably have good-will defence with any boxer to get some money. A champion usually has 2-3 clashes yearly, so, a return match may take place in 2011 or even later.
The second way is to change WBA. But there are too much doubts here because these are Klichko brothers who have three (IBF, WBC and WBO) of four titles. And they said they were interested in Valuev in the quality of champion only.
The third way is due to rating boxing fights. Defeated champion may win somebody from the 10 best boxers of the rating list and it may be enough to return challenger positions. But it is formally. In reality this way appeared to be quite longer. For example, Nikolai Valuev had to wait 2.5 years to fight with Uzbekistan's Ruslan Chagaev.
Meanwhile famous American promoter Don King said that Russia's Nikolai Valuev will come back to the ring, rising like Phoenix from its ashes, Lenta.ru reports.
